Program Overview

Safe Passages is a nonprofit organization committed to strengthening the well-being, academic success, and economic self-sufficiency of children, youth, and families. AmeriCorps VISTA members build the long-term capacity of Safe Passages and its partner sites by developing systems, tools, and partnerships that expand access to critical services across Oakland and the Bay Area.

Position Summary

Safe Passages Summer Associate VISTAs serve in school-linked programs in Oakland to support academic engagement, mentoring, and basic needs outreach for students and families in high-poverty communities. Summer Associates assist with summer academic enrichment and project-based learning activities, provide mentoring and social-emotional support to youth, and help coordinate family outreach and basic needs resources such as summer food distribution and referrals. Through this work, Summer Associates help reduce summer learning loss for low-income students while strengthening the capacity of Safe Passages’ Extended Day and Family Resource programs to deliver coordinated services that support long-term educational success and family stability.

End Date: July 10, 2026

Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Occasional evening and weekend events may be required.
