Safe Passages’ After School Program provides high-quality enrichment and academic support across OUSD school sites using a strong youth development framework.
Primary Responsibilities
The STEAM & Enrichment Instructor will be part of a collaborative after-school team dedicated to delivering high-quality programming for students and families. Instructors will lead engaging activities in a structured, supportive environment. Instruction is delivered in person and supported by the Site Coordinator and Program Specialists.
Responsibilities
· Facilitate indoor STEAM enrichment activities in a classroom setting, including hands-on, project-based learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
· Ensure program safety by implementing and enforcing all school site and Safe Passages policies.
· Develop and lead enrichment activities in areas such as STEAM, social-emotional learning, expressive arts (music, dance, visual arts), gardening, health and fitness, youth leadership, and social justice.
· Complete and submit weekly lesson plans via Google Classroom.
· Prepare students for showcases, presentations, performances, or family events.
· Apply youth development best practices, monitor student progress, and collect surveys as needed.
· Participate in weekly staff meetings, site trainings, and quarterly agency-wide professional developments.
Qualifications
· Experience instructing or facilitating activities for children and youth in a K–12 setting (volunteer or paid).
· Ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
· Bilingual applicants strongly encouraged to apply.
· Strong classroom management and communication skills.
· Ability to develop and implement weekly lesson plans.
· Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.
· Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
· Must commit to the full school year—no exceptions.
· High School Diploma required.
· At least 48 college semester units OR a passing grade on the Instructional Aide exam.
· Clearance of TB test and background (fingerprint) check required.
Employment Classification
Part-time, hourly – non-exempt. This position does not include medical, dental, or vision benefits.
Work Schedule
14–25 hours per week, Monday–Friday, aligned with the OUSD academic calendar (holidays and teacher PD days observed). Candidates must be available all weekdays for the 2025–2026 school year.
Compensation
$22–$25 per hour (paid weekly), depending on education, experience, and references.
