AmeriCorps - Public Health 

Safe Passages is seeking passionate and motivated individuals to join our Public Health AmeriCorps Program for an in-person year of service starting in Fall 2025, dedicated to supporting K-12 students and their communities. Our program focuses on eliminating barriers to education, health, and social services for students and families in the Bay Area. As a Public Health AmeriCorps Member, you will work directly in schools and community spaces to provide critical resources, youth mentorship, and education on public health topics. 

AmeriCorps members serve in teams at school sites, working with students to support their well-being through health education and mentoring. No prior teaching experience is necessary—just a commitment to making a difference in students' lives. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide age-appropriate public health education to K-12 students on community health, hygiene, fitness, food security, nutrition, stress management, and career pathways in public health. 

  • Conduct outreach to students, families, and community members to improve access to social services, public benefits, and health resources. 

  • Support students in navigating barriers related to education, housing, food security, and healthcare access. 

  • Facilitate and support school-based health and wellness programs in collaboration with school staff. 

  • Assist in collecting and tracking data on outreach efforts and student support services. 

  • Attend regular trainings, team meetings, and professional development sessions to enhance skills and impact. 

Benefits: 

  • TENTATIVE Monthly living allowance: $2,285 (full-time) and $1,238 (part-time). 

  • Education award upon successful completion of service: ranges between $1,565 and $7,395 

  • Transportation stipend to support travel costs. 

  • Health coverage and childcare reimbursement (for full-time members only). 

  • Ongoing training and mentorship from experienced educators and public health professionals. 

  • Professional development opportunities in education, public health, and nonprofit sectors. 

  • Hands-on experience working directly with students and community members. 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Must be at least 17 with a high school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent resident status. 

  • Must pass a criminal history check (FBI, DOJ, and NSOPW searches). 

  • Proof of tuberculosis (TB) clearance AND Covid-19 Vaccine. 

  • Commitment to the entire term of service.

AmeriCorps is a national service commitment addressing critical community needs in education. Safe Passages partners with AmeriCorps to provide full-time and part-time service opportunities in schools, where members dedicate 500-1700 hours of service per term in exchange for professional development and a living allowance.
